We asked Jenny Webster some questions about her role here at WCM.
What is your role within WCM, how long have you worked for us?
I have been working with WCM since 2011. I work as a case manager and also as a mentor to other case managers.
What was your background prior to working on behalf of WCM? And how did it lead you to case management?
Prior to case management, I lived in London working at the Royal Marsden Hospital specialising in treating with people with brain tumours. We relocated back to Cornwall in 2011 and a chance meeting with a case manager who referred a client to me for some occupational therapy input, sparked my interest!
What appealed to you about coming to work for WCM?
I am passionate about living in Cornwall and I loved that it portrayed a really local feel.
Can you tell us about the clients you’re working with now?
I have a variety of clients who have sustained a variety of injuries including brain injury, birth injury and spinal cord injury. My cases include settled and unsettled cases and three of my clients require 24 hour care.
Can you describe your typical day?
No, there is no such thing as a typical day! It will however at some point include reviewing a client, liaising with statutory services or other rehabilitation services, answering clinical queries from one of my men-tees and lots of emails and phone calls in between!
What is your favourite aspect of your job?
My clients are amazing, they have all been through so much adversity and yet they are a joy to spend time with. They constantly surprise and inspire me with the adventures they get up to and I love to join them when I can, from one of my client's with severe epilepsy driving at the airfield to one of my wheelchair dependent clients going climbing! I love the variety and the fact that no day is the same! I also really enjoy being able to manage my own working hours.
How do you keep up with your Professional Development?
I attend courses and seminars where I can and dip in and out of our journals. WCM produce a fantastic monthly bulletin which gives lots of hints, tips and links and attending peer support and our bi annual conferences also supports me to maintain my CPD. I am a member of the Training and Events Group for BABICM which enables me to network with a variety of professionals.
What keeps you with WCM?
I adore working for WCM. Wendy is a fantastic and supportive manager and Anita provides me with mentoring support. The admin team are friendly and wizards at what they do and my colleagues are great! Bearing in mind we all rarely get together as we work remotely there is a fantastic camaraderie and support for each other!
What are your future career goals?
I want to be the very best case manager I can be!
